In Åke Anderssons paintings we often meet lonely people with no contact with each other. As if they closes and don’t take responsibility of their actions. There is a silence and some sort of melancholy in his paintings, quiet people and quiet towns. Landscapes that look a bit too perfect to be true. We don’t know if it’s a dystopia or a reel future he describes. It’s a fascinating form of painting, somewhere between photorealism and surrealism. Åke Andersson want’s to capture a dimension which can’t be described in words. Often his paintings express alienation and isolation, but at the same time his beautiful landscapes can be seen as a celebration to nature. It is a time demanding form of painting and for that reason his production is small. His knowledge and ability to master painting partly comes from many years of studying the great masters, especially Rembrandt. Which is obvious in the still lifes were you almost feel that you can smell the fruit.
